Rockies get quirky 9th-inning rally, strong start by Tyler Chatwood to beat Pirates

PITTSBURGH — Heavy, gray clouds hung over downtown here Saturday evening. Rain delayed the game by 56 minutes and a steady drizzle chilled the crowd at PNC Park.

The Rockies finally broke through all of that gloom with a quirky ninth-inning rally to beat Pittsburgh 5-1 in a game highlighted by another outstanding road performance by starter Tyler Chatwood.

In the ninth, catcher Tony Wolters skidded an infield single off closer Mark Melancon, the ball careening off the first-base bag to score Gerardo Parra from third. Daniel Descalso also scored from second when first baseman John Jaso was charged with an error when Jaso stumbled behind the bag trying to secure the ball.
