Rockies’ German Marquez takes big step forward with six scoreless innings vs. D-Backs

PHOENIX — When German Marquez made his 2017 debut at Coors Field last Tuesday, cold rain was tumbling down while the Washington Nationals bombarded Marquez, who gave up eight runs on nine hits in four innings in the Rockies’ 15-12 loss.

Sunday, though, the Rockies lost 2-0 to Arizona in 13 innings, and Marquez grew a little older and wiser.

Utilizing a 92-95 mph fastball to set up his curveball and an effective changeup, he pitched six scoreless innings, scattering six hits, striking out eight and walking just one — and that lone walk was intentional.
