Rockies first baseman C.J. Cron admits to opioid use while testifying in trial over Tyler Skaggs’ death

Rockies first baseman C.J. Cron was among four major leaguers who testified Tuesday in Fort Worth in the case against former Angels communications director Eric Kay, who is accused of providing the drugs that led to the overdose death of pitcher Tyler Skaggs.

Cron, whom Colorado signed to a two-year, $14.5 million deal in October following his first season with the team, admitted to using oxycodone when with the Angels. He said he bought oxycodone pills from Kay eight times. The three other players also testified they received drugs from Kay.

Cron called his oxycodone use a “dumb decision” while naming Kay as his supplier of the drug during his time with the Angels.
