Rockies fielders double-up on first base for embarrassing error

Forget four outfielders, these Rockies play with two first basemen.

Colorado made an interesting and rather embarrassing error in the fifth inning against the Dodgers. As Los Angeles pitcher Kenta Maeda laid a sacrifice bunt down toward third base, Rockies’ Nolan Arenado grabbed the grounder but had two fielders to throw to.

From Patrick Saunders’ story: “Inexplicably, both second baseman DJ LeMahieu and first baseman Daniel Descalso were covering the first-base bag. LeMahieu caught the throw, but his foot was off the bag — and he was charged with the error. That loaded the bases with one out.
