Rockies designate veteran pitcher Jason Motte for assignment, promote Stephen Cardullo

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Rockies’ roster took shape Friday with some major moves.

The club selected the contract of infielder-outfielder Stephen Cardullo from Triple-A Albuquerque and put him on the 40-man roster, clearing the way for Cardullo to be on the opening-day roster for Monday’s season opener at Milwaukee.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Rockies designated veteran right-handed pitcher Jason Motte for assignment.

Additionally, the Rockies optioned utility infielder Pat Valaika to Triple-A Albuquerque and reassigned outfielder Chris Denorfia to minor-league camp.
