Bud Black led the Rockies to places they’d never been before, but his stewardship was not enough for him to be named National League manager of the year.
That award was bestowed on Atlanta’s Brian Snitker, who guided the Braves to an 18-win improvement, as well as their first NL East title and their first postseason appearance since 2013. Milwaukee’s Craig Counsell, who led the Brewers to the NL Central title, finished second, while Black was third in voting released Tuesday.
Snitker got 17 of 30 first-place votes, Counsell received 11 and Black got one. Snitker is the Braves’ first manager of the year since Bobby Cox won the award in 2004 and 2005.
