Austin Gomber was cruising.
Over his last 10 starts, the lefty had posted a 6-1 record and a 2.08 ERA. He’s been one of the best things about the Rockies’ difficult season.
But on a difficult afternoon at Petco Park, Gomber suffered a first-inning blowout from which the Rockies never recovered. It was the Padres who sailed to an 8-1 victory.
Instead of winning the four-game series at San Diego, the Rockies had to settle for a two-two split and finished their 10-game, West Coast road trip 4-6.
Gomber gave up four runs on four hits and two walks in the first.
