The Colorado Rockies dropped the first of their three game set to the Boston Red Sox as their opponents’ bats came alive and theirs did not. The two worst defenses in baseball also both had an error on the evening, but the Red Sox were unaffected as they cruised to an easy victory.

Despite a rough second inning in which he gave up three earned runs, left-handed pitcher Austin Gomber appeared to be having one of his better starts since returning from the injured list. He had only given up three runs (two earned) and struck out a season-high five batters through 4 2⁄3 innings of work.
