Matt Kemp’s everyday standing glance is a sly smile. But his grin grows six sizes larger when he shares a field with the Rockies. The San Diego slugger morphs into an otherworldly hitter of monster proportions. So the Rockies dedicated themselves to finding an answer.
“There have been many meetings,” Colorado manager Walt Weiss said. “Somewhat ineffective.”
In nine games against them this season, Kemp homered as often (five) as he struck out. He knocked in 17 runs against the Rockies, more than three times as many as any other foe. “I don’t know if I’ve seen anything quite like it, the way he’s hit us,” Weiss said.
