SAN DIEGO — Christian Friedrich put an explanation point on his comeback Saturday night against his former team.
The Padres’ left-hander, released by the Rockies before spring training, pitched the best game of his career as San Diego whipped the Rockies 6-3 at Petco Park. With three weeks remaining in their season, the Rockies are treading water — win a game, lose a game — and their chance for a .500 season is quickly slipping away.
Prior to the game, Colorado manager Walt Weiss talked about how happy he was that Friedrich had resurrected his career.
“I really like Christian, he’s one of the guys you always pull for,” Weiss said.
