Nolan Arenado, Rockies agree on record one-year, $26 million deal to avoid arbitration

Nolan Arenado and the Rockies agreed to a one-year, $26 million contract Thursday, avoiding salary arbitration. The contract is a record for a player through the arbitration process. Last year, Josh Donaldson, then with the Blue Jays, got $23 million.

Arenado is in the final year of his contract and is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the season.

“It’s what I wanted,” Arenado said. “I’m glad it’s done. Now I can focus on baseball.”
