SAN DIEGO — Thursday night marked the first time that the Rockies and Padres squared off since a record-shattering four-game series over Father’s Day weekend in Denver.
Not only was the series historic, it also seemingly was a turning point for Colorado’s season.
The two teams split the mid-June series and Colorado outscored the Padres 48-44, with those 48 runs representing the third-highest run total in a four-game series in franchise history. The 92 combined runs also established a major-league record for a four-game series.
Colorado finished the series with a 37-34 record, tied for second in the NL West.
