Kyle Freeland started with a new tool in his arsenal: a sweeper that’s so far been bringing the Colorado Rockies lefty success.
Its development happened quickly.
“I started messing with it, grips and stuff, started throwing it in ‘pens before spring training started,” Freeland said, “kind of got a good feel for what I was looking for, what we wanted to see out of it and just carried that through spring.”
The refinement paid off:
“And then this season it has been really, really good for us,” Freeland added.
The idea for the new pitch came from a friend; the refinement happened in the Colorado Rockies pitching lab.
