Jeff Hoffman leads off the Rockies’ spring slate still tightening the screws; Raimel Tapia shows off new power

Lanky right-hander Jeff Hoffman pushed the Rockies into their spring slate Friday. Among a group of eight starters vying for five spots, he was the first to show off.

“I was pretty jacked up,” Hoffman said of his two innings of Cactus League work. He threw two no-hit innings in the Diamondbacks’ 7-6 victory over Colorado in 10 innings.

Hoffman struck out one — Diamondbacks catcher Chris Herman, on an 85-mph changeup in the second inning — and walked two.
