Jake McGee snatches defeat from the jaws of victory; Rockies lose 7-5

Jon Gray was stellar, but the Rockies' closer couldn't get the last out in the ninth inning.

On a strange night that included a week's worth of bad throws and an early exit by a starting pitcher, the Rockies were one out away from emerging victorious for the fifth time in six games behind another great start by Jon Gray and Nolan Arenado's 19th home run. Jake McGee had other plans. A four-run ninth inning capped by a three-run Wil Myers home run led the Padres to a 7-5 win, which seemed unlikely back in the first inning.
