DJ LeMahieu injury update: Degree of thumb sprain to second baseman “concerning” for the Rockies

SAN DIEGO – Rockies second baseman DJ LeMahieu is seeing a hand specialist here Tuesday for a second opinion on a sprained left thumb that landed him on the 10-day disabled list on Monday.

LeMahieu initially hurt the thumb during his third at-bat against the Brewers on Sunday, and since then the digit has been “sore, swollen and painful,” according to Rockies manager Bud Black.

“What we want to rule out is any sort of fracture or break,” Black said. “The degree of the sprain is concerning us — if it’s mild or a low-degree sprain, we’re in good shape and he could be back when his time’s up in 10 days.
