David Dahl might supplant Charlie Blackmon as Rockies’ leadoff hitter

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Charlie Blackmon became a star as the Rockies’ leading man, but the team is considering changing up its cast.

Outfielder David Dahl is on deck to replace Blackmon as the club’s leadoff hitter.

“We’re thinking about it strongly,” manager Bud Black said Tuesday.

The question, of course, is why? Blackmon, a four-time all-star, has a career on-base percentage of .360 to go along with 172 career home runs, including 32 last season. In 2017, he won the National League batting crown with a .331 average, mashed 37 home runs and drove in a big-league record 103 runs from the leadoff position.
