Connor Joe’s versatility gives him a role in wake of Rockies’ outfield moves

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Connor Joe is having a strong camp, hitting .500 (6-for-12) in five Cactus League games. Moreover, he’s hitting the ball with authority.

But with the Rockies’ recent outfield moves, where does that leave Joe?

Kris Bryant, signed last week to a seven-year, $182 million contract will be the primary left fielder, a position Joe manned during the second half of last season. On Thursday, the Rockies traded outfielder Raimel Tapia to Toronto in exchange for outfielder Randal Grichuk.

Grichuk will mostly play center field, meaning Joe’s best chance to see playing time is in right field — on days when veteran Charlie Blackmon is the designated hitter — or at first base or as an occasional DH.
