Connor Joe, Daniel Bard deliver in Rockies 2-1 win over Pirates

PITTSBURGH — Through all of the Rockies’ trials and tribulations, Connor Joe has been a steady, heady player.

He was rewarded Tuesday night at PNC Park, delivering the winning hit in a 2-1, 10-inning victory over the Pirates.

And closer Daniel Bard stood on his head, getting the win with two clutch innings.

Joe’s 10th inning game-winner scored “ghost runner” Sam Hilliard from second with a single to center off Chuck Bednar.

Colorado’s bullpen smothered Pittsburgh hitters, though Bard had to work out of a tight jam in the ninth. He walked Rodolfo Castro to open the inning and Castro stole second, then moved to third on pinch-hitter Josh VanMeter’s infield single off Bard’s glove.
