Chris Iannetta’s homer saves Rockies in extras after stellar start by German Marquez

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Rockies’ margin for error has reached absolute zero.

With their offense as extinct as Dinger’s daddy, they need excellent pitching to have any chance at winning. And they desperately need someone to pick up a bat and don Superman’s cape.

Catcher Chris Iannetta played the part Wednesday afternoon, belting a one-out, solo home run in the 11th inning to lift the Rockies to a 1-0 win over Tampa Bay at Tropicana Field. Iannetta ripped an 0-2, 78 mph slider from Chaz Roe.

Iannetta’s home run was only the Rockies’ second of the season, and they had scored just one run over the past 40 innings until Iannetta delivered.
