Charlie Blackmon’s dramatic walk-off could be the exact boost the Rockies need to permanently escape early-season slump

For all the pull-your-hair-out moments the Rockies had last season, they wouldn’t have experienced Rocktober 2018 without a few momentum-shifting, emotional wins.

Colorado got its first such occasion of 2019 on Friday night at Coors Field, when Charlie Blackmon drilled a two-strike, two-out fastball to center, a two-run homer that gave Colorado an improbable 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in 12 innings.

Blackmon’s home run extended the Rockies’ winning streak to five as the club rebounds from the worst start in franchise history. And, as Blackmon explained, his first longball of the season could also be the springboard Colorado needs to settle into a deep groove as the calendar nears May.
