SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Warm applause and happy cheers greeted Carlos Gonzalez on Thursday afternoon at Salt River Fields when he played in his first Cactus League game of spring.
The Rockies right fielder went 1-for-3, beating out an infield single in the first and coming around to score. And while getting the at-bats were important, especially with the season opener just two weeks away, Gonzalez couldn’t help but soak up the affection.
“It was really nice, the way people received me with that ovation,” he said. “Coming out of the tunnel and during the stretch before the game, a lot of people were excited to see me.
