Blake St. Ball: Could the Colorado Rockies have a new ace in 2019?

A few days ago, we discussed how the Colorado Rockies lineup might look like in 2019 but with all this talent, who is the club’s ace? The default answer right now is Kyle Freeland. The Denver native had arguably the best season for a Rockies starter in franchise history in his sophomore campaign in 2018. He put an exclamation point on his breakout year when he hurled 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball against the Chicago Cubs in the National League Wild Card Game, surrendering just 4 hits.

Taking fourth place in last year’s NL Cy Young Award voting, Freeland will undoubtedly open the season as the team’s number one starter and he should be expected to turn in similar results this year.
