Athletics 9, Rockies 5: Rox fall behind early, can’t fight back

The Rockies battled all night long, but were ultimately unable to overcome an early deficit and fell to the A’s 9-5 on Friday.

Gray rough from the get-go

Jon Gray struggled with command early, and he was never really able to recover. Pitching just 2 13 innings, Gray was either way off the plate or right over it. He allowed five earned runs on four hits (two of which were solo homers) and two walks, with no strikeouts. Gray opened the game with a four-pitch walk to Mark Canha, which would act as a prelude to his tough day.
