Adam Ottavino ready for game action — and Rockies have his return mapped out

Adam Ottavino barely slept through the night two Fridays ago. The thought of pitching a simple practice session at Coors Field tossed him and turned him. “Whenever you take that next step, it’s always exciting,” he said.

On Friday, Ottavino took an even bigger step. The right-handed reliever was penciled in to pitch a game for the Single-A Modesto Nuts. It will be his first game since surgeons reconstructed his elbow 13 months ago.

“It’s a big day for Otto. First time in a game — that’s a big marker for him,” Colorado manager Walt Weiss said.
