A deep read of a dumb play

We have one to add to the annals of dumb baseball plays. In the bottom of the fifth inning of last night's eventual 1-0 Rockies win over the Dodgers, a Kenta Maeda sacrifice bunt turned from a routine out to a reach on error. The error originated with both DJ LeMahieu and Daniel Descalso waiting for the thrown ball at first base. LeMahieu intercepted the ball while not on the bag, allowing Maeda to make it to first base safely.

It's the time of play that causes frustration on the field and a level of giddiness for viewers, regardless of rooting interest.
