COMMERCE CITY — Tim Howard has returned to the Rapids after two crucial World Cup qualifying games with the men’s national team, confident that things are looking better for Team USA while taking nothing for granted.
After a 2-0 win over Trinidad last week at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and a huge 1-1 draw at Mexico on Sunday, the U.S. sits third in the six-team “hexagonal” tournament that will determine the teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean that will move on to the World Cup next summer in Russia. The top three teams automatically qualify and the fourth-place team will face a play-in series with a team from Asia.
