The Colorado Rapids were delayed 222 minutes: 5 things we learned from a wet loss to New England

COMMERCE CITY — In Colorado, there’s a saying: If you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes. The Colorado Rapids and New England Revolution waited 222 minutes Thursday night, and into Friday morning.

In what was supposed to be the biggest firework show in all of Colorado, instead 15,584 fans—about 800 of which stayed until the end — watched one of the longest games in Rapids history. The Revolution scored just before the first delay and tallied a second right after the final delay to win 2-1.

The Rapids’ sparkling unbeaten streak of seven matches was nixed, as were the postgame fireworks.
