Seattle Sounders accused of “flopping” to win over Rapids in first leg of Western Conference championship

SEATTLE — The Colorado Rapids got off to a dream start, but couldn’t hold on in the opening leg of the Western Conference championship here Tuesday.

Despite an early goal from Kevin Doyle, the best defense in MLS couldn’t make it stand up. Goals by Sounders’ Jordan Morris and Nicolas Lodeiro gave Seattle the 2-1 victory in front of 42,774 poncho-wearing fans at rain-soaked CenturyLink Field.

For the last two weeks it seemed as though Rapids leading goal scorer Shkelzen Gashi would not play, doubtful because of a bum ankle suffered in the Western Conference semifinals against Los Angeles.
