COMMERCE CITY — The downward spiral of the Rapids continued Friday night with their fifth consecutive loss and second straight at home, falling 1-0 to Vancouver in a game they controlled most of the way but seldom threatened the goal.
Caught with 10 men in the attacking half of the field in the 84th minute, Colorado fell victim to a counterattack that left Vancouver’s Brek Shea one-on-one with goalkeeper Tim Howard after running 50 yards unimpeded. Shea beat Howard with a shot between Howard’s legs, but Howard never should have been put in that position.
The Rapids’ attack was more energetic and purposeful early in the game.
