COMMERCE CITY — The Rapids’ fourth-place position in the Western Conference standings is a little misleading. Having been among the league leaders since the first month of the season, they still have the league’s second-best record, as measured by points per game.
FC Dallas has the league’s best record with 51 points. Real Salt Lake and the Los Angeles Galaxy are tied for second place in the conference with 44 points. The Rapids are at 43 points, but all three teams ahead of them in the conference have played two more games than they have. And the best team in the Eastern Conference, New York City FC, also has 44 points with two more games played than the Rapids.
