New Rapids midfielder Kellyn Acosta has a strong leg and soft foot

COMMERCE CITY — Kellyn Acosta‘s big, heavy and precise kicks on goal following Rapids practice Wednesday were far different than the soft lob that produced his Major League Soccer goal-of-the-week candidate in Saturday’s 2-1 loss at D.C. United.

Acosta’s goal in his MLS debut with Colorado tied the game 1-1 and was silky smooth, proving the newest Rapid has a versatile skill set the team hopes to build around. The Rapids (4-12-5) acquired the 23-year-old Acosta from FC Dallas last week, adding a play-maker and goal-scorer to an anemic lineup that had produced just 24 goals in its first 20 games.
