In the last home match of the 2016 season, the Rapids' Special Olympics Unified team fell to FC Dallas’ Special Olympics team 0-1 on Saturday, July 23rd at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Saturday’s action opened with a short pre-game warmup from both teams, followed by a full procession and the reading of the Special Olympics athlete oath by Andie Zitek. The teams then took the field for what would be a strong defensive battle.
Off to a roaring start, Elli Brunts of Special Olympics Texas scored first in the 8th minute, which would prove to be the only goal of the evening.
