The Colorado Rapids' USL affiliate, Charlotte Independence, played two matches this past week, recording a 0-0 draw against Richmond Kickers and a 1-0 loss to Rochester Rhinos.
Charlotte had scored 12 goals in their previous three matches, but were unable to replicate that form, going scoreless in both matches.
Rapids' loanee John Berner was a bright spot, recording a shutout in the first match against Richmond, but let in a penalty against Rochester - who now sit only one point below the Independence - despite guessing the correct side. He did, however, make a fine save 10 minutes from time to help maintain their superior goal differential over the Rhinos, +19 compared to +12.
