Match Preview: Rapids ready to meet Real Salt Lake in Rocky Mountain Cup showdown

Rocky Mountain Cup games are always big—but Saturday’s is one of the biggest.

Both the Colorado Rapids and Real Salt Lake have recorded record-breaking starts in each club's MLS seasons this year. They are positioned first and second in the Western Conference as well as the Supporters’ Shield standings, respectively.

The onus is on Pablo Mastroeni’s men after they were beaten 1-0 at Rio Tinto Stadium last month—one of only two defeats this season. Last year, the Rapids wrested control of the Rocky Mountain Cup for only the second time since 2007. A defeat on Saturday would force them to hand it over once more.
