Despite managing just one win in five, the Colorado Rapids remain the top team in MLS in terms of average points per game, and sit nestled on the shoulder of Supporters’ Shield leaders FC Dallas, three points behind with three matches in hand.
On top of those encouraging stats, the Rapids head into Saturday’s home showdown with Sporting Kansas City boasting a club-record 13 games unbeaten, behind a four-game winning streak against Peter Vermes’ side and with a 7-0-2 run at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Some may suggest the Rapids were fortunate to escape with a point in their scoreless draw with Portland Timbers in their previous home game, while others will feel the team deserved more than parity last weekend in the dramatic draw at Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
