Jermaine Jones is first Colorado Rapids player to score for U.S. since 2009

Colorado Rapids midfielder Jermaine Jones likes scoring goals.

He’s got three in seven games since joining the Rapids — that hot streak continued Tuesday as the U.S. international scorched a low finish past Costa Rican goalie Patrick Pemberton to put the Americans up 2-0 in the 37th minute of the Copa America Centenario group stage match. Seattle Sounders striker Clint Dempsey, who opened the scoring on a 9th-minute penalty kick, set up the Jones’ strike.

Jones is the first Rapids player to score a goal for the U.S. senior national team since Conor Casey scored a brace against Honduras in a World Cup qualifier in San Pedro Sula on Oct.
