Host club Colorado Rapids opened their Generation adidas Cup campaign on Friday with a 3-1 win over Portland Timbers at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Although the scoreline indicates a solid victory for the Rapids' U-17s, it was tied at one apiece until the final five minutes.
The Rapids struck first in the 34th minute when Eban Noverr scored from the penalty spot. Portland would level just after halftime from the penalty spot as well, but there’s was a bit more unconventional. After being called for coming to a complete stop in his run-up to the kick, Gio Calixtro was given a yellow card.
