Could Shkelzen Gashi’s return to fitness give Rapids the spark they desperately need?

COMMERCE CITY — The Rapids didn’t pick up any attacking help during the FIFA transfer window that closed Monday, but they are getting back a player who could give them the offensive spark they desperately need.

Designated player Shkelzen Gashi played his first 90-minute game of the season last week and coach Pablo Mastroeni said it was his best performance since joining the team last year. A creative winger/forward who is deadly on free kicks, Gashi was Colorado’s leading scorer in 2016 with nine goals — including one voted MLS goal of the year and another that kept their season alive in a playoff series with Los Angeles.
