Colorado Rapids eliminated from U.S. Open Cup in extra-time loss in Dallas

A first half goal by Rapids winger Dominique Badji was not enough as FC Dallas eliminated Colorado from the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in a battle of MLS’ top two teams Wednesday in Frisco, Texas.

Dallas got a second-half equalizer from Mauro Diaz and an extra-time winner from Maximiliano Urruti to snap the Rapids’ 12-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. It was Colorado’s first defeat since April 9 at Real Salt Lake.

The Rapids grabbed the lead in the 38th minute when midfielder Dillon Powers found winger Marlon Hairston streaking down the right flank. Hairston delivered a low cross far post to Badji, who buried it into the roof of the net.
