Clint Irwin returns to Colorado Rapids via trade

Clint Irwin is back where his MLS career started.

The Colorado Rapids on Friday acquired the 29-year-old goalkeeper in a trade with Toronto FC, in exchange for a second round pick (39th overall) in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft — a pick they had acquired from FC Dallas in the Kellyn Accosta trade earlier this summer.

“I’m very happy to return to the club where I began my MLS career and look forward to being a big part of the club’s future,” said Irwin in a news release.

The acquisition gives the Rapids a goalkeeper with proven MLS experience behind starter Tim Howard who is entering the final year of his contract.
