COMMERCE CITY — There’s no doubt that the splashy signing of U.S. national team goalkeeper Tim Howard has created a buzz around the Colorado Rapids. But for a team that has allowed the fewest goals (11) in MLS through half a season, questions linger over how much better the Rapids can be with Howard in goal.
Howard is expected to make his Rapids debut Monday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. He lost his starting job in his final season for Liverpool-based Everton FC. Then U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann last month turned to Brad Guzan as his starter for the Copa América Centenario tournament.
