Trisha MacIntyre, the wife of Colorado head football coach Mike MacIntyre, is co-hosting an event to raise awareness of ovarian cancer.
MacIntyre will help to host the first Hike For Her event on Sunday at 9 a.m. at the NCAR Table Mesa Trail.
The event is free of charge, but donations are accepted. The event will help to fund research that is nearing major breakthroughs in battling the disease.
MacIntyre was inspired to get involved in this event after losing her mother to ovarian cancer last November. The American Cancer Society estimates there will be more than 22,280 new cases of ovarian cancer diagnosed this year and that it will claim the lives of more than 14,240 women this year alone.
