New law allows CU to offer more multi-year deals to coaches

Later this year, the Colorado athletic department will be allowed to offer more financial stability to its coaches.

On Monday afternoon, Governor John Hickenlooper signed Senate bill 17-041, the final step to it becoming a law and allowing more multi-year contracts in the athletic department.

For years, state legislation has limited CU and other in-state schools, including Colorado State and Northern Colorado, to six multi-year contracts per campus, with a cap of five years in length on those deals.

That legislation will stay intact for the university, but this new law makes employee positions in self-funded auxiliaries, such as athletics, exempt from that legislation.
