Karl Dorrell “clubhouse leader” to become new CU Buffs football coach, report says

There’s reportedly a new clubhouse leader in the race to replace Mel Tucker — and this one is running in from out of left field.

Karl Dorrell, the former CU assistant, ex-UCLA coach and current Miami Dolphins wide receivers coach, has “emerged as favorite in the Colorado search,” Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel reported via a tweet early Saturday afternoon.

Dorrell, 56, hasn’t been a head coach since serving a five-year stint from 2003-07 with the Bruins, where he posted a 35-27 record, 24-18 in the then-Pac-10.

The California native and UCLA alum had two stints as a Buffs assistant, working as a wide receivers coach under Bill McCartney from 1992-93 and as offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach for Rick Neuheisel from 1995-98.
