RIO DE JANEIRO — Boulder's Jenny Simpson claimed a bronze medal in the 1,500 meters at the Olympics Tuesday night, one day after training partner Emma Coburn took bronze in the steeplechase.

Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon of Kenya took the gold medal in 4 minutes, 8.92 seconds, upsetting Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia (4:10.27). Simpson finished in 4:10,53.

Simpson, who is a two-time world championships medalist, was in sixth place with one lap to go before coming on to win her first Olympics medal.

"I saw a killer, a predator," said Simpson's coach, Mark Wetmore.
