BOULDER — Former Rangeview High School coach Dave Gonzales wasn't surprised when he heard Jaleel Awini had made the transition from backup quarterback to first-string outside linebacker for the Colorado Buffaloes.
Gonzales was reminded of a game in Awini's senior year at Rangeview, where he started at quarterback and played some safety in nickel situations.
"We were playing Fairview and he got rocked," Gonzales said. "I don't know if he lied his way through the concussion test, but the kid who hit him got ejected for leading with his head. Jaleel got up, shook it off.
