Colorado alumnus Kenny Coakley and current CU sophomore John Souza finished the first round of the play at the U.S. Amateur at 5 over and 7 over, respectively, Monday at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles.
Coakley, a 2006 graduate, collected a birdie on the par-4 second hole and shot par on 14 holes and but was hampered by two bogeys and a pair of double bogeys.
Coakley sits tied for 154th place.
Souza had an up-and-down round as well, carding an eagle on the par-5 eighth hole to go with back-to-back birdies on the 10th and 11th.
