CU sports facilities: New venues offer view to future revenue

BuffZone.com Writer

Even before Rick George was hired as Colorado's sixth full-time athletic director two years ago, he was making the case to the university's leadership that one way to solve many of the athletic department's problems was by increasing revenue outside of selling more football tickets.

George believes that mantra more today than ever and one of his key areas of emphasis might be about to take off.

George wants to significantly increase the amount of non-game-day business the athletic department attracts to its facilities. With four new sizable areas opening in the next eight months in which to host groups and meetings, the department's bottom line could get a boost in the coming years with the ability to host larger groups and meetings than any other facility in Boulder.
