CU men's basketball: Buffs make Grier hiring official

The University of Colorado made it official on Friday by naming Bill Grier to the men's basketball coaching staff.

As BuffZone.com reported earlier this week, Grier replaces Rodney Billups on head coach Tad Boyle's staff. Billups left CU following the season to take the head coach job at his alma mater, the University of Denver.

Grier spent the past season as an assistant at Oklahoma State but is mostly known for his work as the head coach at the University of San Diego and, previously, as an assistant and recruiting coordinator at Gonzaga.

Grier led San Diego to the 2008 West Coast Conference tournament championship and a first-round win against UConn in the NCAA Tournament.
